Pro makeup training now online

The Sydney-based Institute of Makeup Artistry (IMUA) has launched an online education platform for aspiring makeup artist professionals.

Designed to be completed over six to twelve-months, the course covers “wedding makeup to special effects and everything in between” and provides easy access to mentoring and support from industry professionals.

IMUA chief executive Anthony Mondello said the institute created the course to meet the increasing demand for quality education from aspiring makeup artists with a lack of time to physically attend.

“We noticed an increase in expensive face-to-face options for makeup courses and a limited number of quality online options for aspiring makeup artists,” he said.

Our students are wanting the very best mentors and teaching and the flexibility to complete high quality training in their own time.”

Mondello said the course, which is delivered 100 percent online, uses professionally filmed HD video tutorials to “provide students with an amazing experience that will rival conventional face-to-face learning” at a fraction of the cost.

Course author makeup artist Rachel Dal Santo, who has over 30 years’ experience in the makeup industry, said the course is a perfect launch pad for aspiring makeup artists.

“The world of makeup offers endless opportunities, from wedding makeup to special effects and everything in between,” she said.

“This is why I’ve constructed the course to include aspects of what I think are the essentials for having a successful career in the industry.

“Being an all-rounder is a tremendous selling point and offers the perfect launch pad for beginners. We’ve really designed the course requirements around what would be practical and essential for those starting out.”

The Professional Makeup Artistry Course consists of 12 modules and 12 corresponding interactive assignments.

Although the course is designed to be self-paced it is anticipated that most students would dedicate around four to six hours per week to complete it in 24 weeks while some may take “up to one year to complete their studies because of family or work commitments”.

Students will also have access to a personal tutor to help them with course work and mark their assignments; be provided with a free portfolio website to display their work; and receive professional discounts for makeup and equipment.
