Sue Marshall Wins Makeup Artist Category at AHFAs

Last week the 2013 Australian Hair Fashion Awards were announced at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf. In conjunction with the re-launch of the hair fashion publication The Journal (former Australian Hairdressers Journal), David Mannah, creative director of the awards and affiliate publication played host to over 300 guests who waited in eager anticipation for the honour roll to be called.

An event synonymous with style and a star-studded guest list, fabulous frocks and handsome finery were adorned as hairdressing professionals, makeup artists, fashion creatives and media walked the red carpet for the highly acclaimed industry awards now in their 21st year.

British pop singer and songwriter Natasha Bedingfield opened the evening with an exquisite acoustic performance of her hit song These Words, whilst former Miss Universe Australia Laura Dundovic and Home and Away Actor Dan Ewing hosted the event.

Guests enjoyed a decadent three course supper and were entertained with three stand out live performances from Australian Idol winner Stan Walker, while the The Voice favourite and Universal Recording Artist Prinnie Stevens delivered a stellar performance of her new single ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’.

Sue Marshall, one of Australia’s leading makeup artists known for her signature ‘flawless skin’ look and ‘sophisticated modern’ style, was proud to win the makeup artist category. Sue’s appreciation for the aesthetics of makeup application and commitment to her craft are evident in every stroke of the brush, whether for red carpet and runway events, or global editorial and advertising campaigns.

Sue said of her win, "I couldn’t be more thrilled to back up last year with another win! It was so instrumental in opening up some exciting opportunities here and abroad that I look forward to what the coming year has in store for me. It has been a really wonderful experience entering and writing my submission, because as an artist, it allows me to look over the past year and at the work I have produced or been involved in and really see just how much I achieved that year… it’s something we as artists don’t often do (look back) and we are our own greatest critics, however,  the written submission really does put it in perspective for me."

Based in Melbourne, Sue has exhibited her artistic precision and timeless style on the faces of many celebrities and well-known models, including: Miranda Otto, Emily Browning, Jessica Hart, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Rachel Hunter, Ruby Rose, Nervo, Jessica Mauboy, Maven Zandra Rhodes and Kate Ceberano. Her corporate clients include L’Oreal, Myer, David Jones, The Australian Ballet, Just Group, Face of Australia, Mercedes Benz, Crown Entertainment Complex and Herald Sun.

Sue’s holistic approach to beauty sets her apart from her peers. Sharing her knowledge of complementary health products allows her clients to better understand the importance of good inner health to achieve beautiful skin.

Judging took place in January at The Browns Hotel London, with over 100 entries reviewed by the British hairdressing monarchy including Errol Douglas MBE, Jamie Brooks (3 x London Hairdresser of the Year) and Indira Schauwecker (Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year 2011).
