Mt Gambier’s Vanity Makeup Bar & Body Lounge competed in the Hair & Beauty SA state competitions at the Hilton Hotel in Adelaide on Sunday June 5, 2011, using smiink lashes to add the finishing touches to their looks.
An annual event, the Hair & Beauty SA state awards extravaganza is open to hairdressers, nail technicians and makeup artists to enter any of the 16 sections ranging from cut and restyle on stage to pre-done Bridal, Runway, Men’s Runway and Open Bridal makeup pre-done and Open Runway makeup pre-done.
Using smiink lashes, including the new minklicious lashes, every day Flashy Lash, new Divine Magic and Hollywood Nights to create the exceptional makeup looks, Vanity’s owner and head makeup artist Mel Von Stanke won the Open Bridal category for the second consecutive year, and took 2nd place in the Open Runway Total Look category.
Mel’s assistant Megan Evans, was also successful, taking home two medals in her competitive categories, and Vanity took home a swag of commendations.
“Hair & Beauty SA state competitions are such fantastic opportunities for the rural salons to gain experience against the city salons, and it’s definitely a great way to ensure we are exposed to the latest trends,” says Mel. “It’s also a terrific way to boost the profile of our salon, but in Adelaide city and also our home town of Mt Gambier.”

To win the Open Bridal category for the second time, Mel was aware that with 20-30 models on stage at the same time, it was necessary to choose a look that will both be noticed yet remain a traditional, wearable everyday bridal makeup look.
“I chose a black dress but paired it with a large, soft pink flower in the hair. Then I was able to complete a look of pastel pink lips and cheeks and a very soft smokey eye with a hint of oyster to highlight. The NEW smiink Minklicious lashes fitted perfectly, and I would recommend these particular lashes to any bride," she said.
