The Romance Was Born show, held at the incredible Carthona in Sydney’s Darling Point, was a visual feast of fantasy fashion. The style-set was transported to another world as spectacular outfit followed spectacular outfit into the estate’s stunning grounds. With so much going on clothes-wise, the makeup needed to hold its own – and it did just that.

Created by makeup artist Linda Jefferyes for Sephora Collection, the makeup, which was both whimsical and pastel yet strongly feminine, was inspired by the flamboyant 1950s pianist’s glamorous style.

“We’ve been very inspired by Liberace,” says Jefferyes.”The look has a ’20s and ’30s influence and is very ethereal Liberace little angels.”

The 1920s and 1930s were a major influence on both the clothing and the makeup at Romance Was Born.

Skin was made porcelain perfect with a prep of Sephora Collection Super Regenerating Oil-Serum, followed by the brand’s Wonderful Cushion Foundation and Teint Infusion in Natural. Cheeks were given a flush of colour using Sephora Collection Wonderful Cushion Blush.

On the eyes, Jefferyes  created “a socket eye” using Sephora Collection Contour Eye Pencils and Sephora Collection Colorful Shadow and Liner to wash pastel pinks, golds, greens over lids. To add to the whimsy feel, Jefferyes added “glitter on the eye socket” to some of the model’s eyes.

Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick was used to create “a small bow lip”, which took the makeup look directly from pretty to powerful, and allowed the model’s faces to stand up to all the drama going on with the clothes.
