OPI is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the biggest movie musical of the 20th century, Grease!, with the launch of limited edition colour polishes as well as three new ‘special effect nail lacquers’ this month.
Created in collaboration with Paramount Pictures, the nail collection captures “the movie’s fun, energetic spirit with “retro hues that look good on all skin tones”.
The colours, available in iGelColor and Infinite Shine ProStay, are:
- Powdery pastel shades of yellow, lavender, pink and peach – Meet a Boy Cute As Can Be, Frenchie Likes To Kiss?, Pink Ladies Rule the School, and Hopelessly Devoted to OPI
- Bright pops of orange, turquoise and magenta – Summer Lovin’, Having a Blast, Was It All Just a Dream?, and You’re the Shade That I Want
- Rich tones of teal, blue and black shimmer – Teal Me More, Teal Me More, Chills Are Multiplying, and Danny & Sandy 4 Ever
- White and red “a nod to Rydell High school colours” – Don’t Cry Over Spilled Milkshakes and Tell Me About It Stud
The three limited edition shades, which have a three-dimensional effect and leather-like texture, are available in white (Rydell Forever), black (Grease is the Word) and pink (Electryfyin’ Pink).
Launching the collection, OPI co-founder and brand ambassador Suzi Weiss-Fischmann said OPI is “once again making its mark on pop culture”.
“My job is to excite the consumer, and this collaboration with such a beloved movie will undoubtedly do just that,” she said.
“The characters offered so much inspiration for the colours from the Pink Ladies’ jackets and Sandy’s cheerleading outfit to Danny’s leather coat and Frenchie’s magenta ‘do’.
“If you’re a fan of the movie (and who isn’t), there’s a colour for you.”
She said the Grease! collaboration also gave the company the ideal opportunity to launch its breakthrough polishes which are “unlike anything else on the market”.
“There’s no better time to release these breakthrough new nail lacquers than with the Grease Collection,” she said.
“The raw, natural leather-like finish brings to mind so many elements of the movie, from the Greasers’ leather jackets to Sandy’s leather ensemble, while giving classic hues of white, black and pink an edgy look.
