Clinic ‘reinvents’ medical cosmetics training

Box Hill Institute, a leading provider of TAFE courses, vocational training and international degrees in Melbourne, has opened a clinic offering “the highest standard of medical cosmetics training in Australia”.

Launched in partnership with the Cosmetic Institute of Australia, the clinic offers a range of courses including non-accredited short courses, accredited diplomas and advanced diplomas as well as traineeships and apprenticeships.

Speaking at the clinic’s official opening, Jane Trewin, the executive director of education delivery at Box Hill Institute, said the clinic was reinventing medical cosmetics education from the ground up.

Dr Ben Chan, clinical director of the Cosmetic Institute of Australia and educator in dermatological and cosmetic procedures at the new clinic, said the courses have been created to help doctors, dentists, nurses and beauty therapists develop the education and skills they need to succeed in today’s competitive market.

“There is no other training facility like this in Australia and I don’t know of any similar elsewhere in the world,” he said.

“This initiative is unique and we aim to be the best practice provider so that this model can be repeated in other countries.”

Dr Chan added that the courses will also help consumers who are “currently confused about medical cosmetic services and how to choose those that are right for them” as it will “help create clarity by providing practitioners with professional qualifications from a respected educational institution in the marketplace.”
