Competition heats up at Brisbane Expo

More than 200 Australian beauty professionals will be competing ‘live’ at the Brisbane Hair & Beauty Expo this Sunday and Monday.

The Expo will be staging the Sunshine Pro Series competitions over the two days so that all visitors have the opportunity to see the industry’s most talented professionals at work.

The Sunshine Pro Series is made up of four main competitions: nail, lash, makeup and hair

Nail Competition: The Emendee Nail Competition provides the opportunity for nail technicians to showcase their talents in one or multiple competitions, with divisions including Novice, Open and Masters. Categories for the pre-event post-in submissions, hand-in submissions and live competitions include stiletto nails, sculptured nails, reality nails, fantasy art and 3D boxed nail art.

Lash Competition: Managed by Joy Crossingham from Brisbane Lashes Salon & Training Academy, the Lash Competition ‘which is the first of its kind every held in Australia’, will feature two ‘live’ categories (Classic and Volume) for students and experts. The competition also features a post-in submission ‘Photographic Fantasy Lash’ category; entries will be displayed and judged at the expo.

Makeup Competition: Managed by National Academy of Beauty, the competition provides an opportunity for makeup artists of all skill levels to compete with categories available for Professionals and Students. This year’s Makeup Competition will feature a beautiful Contemporary Bridal category and an innovative Avant Garde category.

Hair Competition: Managed by MIG Training and with separate divisions for seniors and students/apprentices, this year’s competition will feature 11 categories including ladies cutting,  men’s cutting, traditional barbering, upstyling and pre-done colour.

Expo managing director Jason Greenhalgh said the Expo, which has increased its floor space at the Brisbane Convention & Convention Centre from 1 to 1.5 halls to cater for the increase in exhibitor numbers (70 last year to “around 85” this year) and 6000 expected visitors, would provide a unique opportunity for hair and beauty professionals at all levels to “enhance their knowledge and skills, meet and develop relationships with industry members and suppliers and gain valuable inspiration”.

The Brisbane Hair & Beauty Expo will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Convention Centre on Sunday July 30 and Monday July 31.
