NEW app tells you when you’ve had too much sun

Spanish biotech company, Monteloeder, has launched an exciting new app that allows consumers to keep track of their ‘UV budget’.

A new UV app combines the current UV index, temperature and pollution levels, along with skin type, to calculate the user's ‘UV budget’.

Powered by sophisticated artificial intelligence, this clever new app by Spanish global biotech company Monteloeder  is designed to be used in conjunction with the company’s oral suncare formulation, NutroxSun (not currently available in Australia), a 100 per cent natural oral supplement blend of natural grapefruit and rosemary, which promises to help protect the skin against the damaging effects of the sun.

Two years in development, the app, which is due out this month, combines key environmental information, including the current UV index, temperature and pollution levels, along with personal information, such as skin type, to calculate a ‘UV budget’ for the user.

The app will alert the user when their UV budget is close to being exhausted and keep a close eye on levels of erythema – reddening of the skin by the sun. When things are looking problematic, the app will warn the user to take action, either with sunscreen application or getting out of the sun.

Created in partnership with UK-based Seven Sense, a digital technology business specialising in mobile healthcare solutions, the recommendations of this app have been backed up with 7 years of Monteloeder’s clinical studies and a recent clinical trial, published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

While the supplement is not currently available in Australia, it is an interesting look at how technology and health are beginning to merge.

“The combination of an ingredient-plus-mobile technology is a compelling one for consumers,” says Fernando Cartagena, Head of Global Marketing at Monteloeder. “They appreciate anything that proves the nutrition products they use are really working. Our app harnesses digital technology to achieve this by demonstrating to users that their suncare-from-within supplement is protecting them as it should. This marks the dawn of a significant new phase in how we market dietary supplements and ingredients to consumers, and how they use them.”

The App will be available globally to download from the Apple Store from 30 September 2016.
