Patrick ‘starrrs’ in MAC collaboration

YouTube sensation Patrick Starrr will be launching a makeup range in collaboration with MAC Cosmetics next month.

MAC Cosmetics said the MAC x Patrick Starrr range of 12 “mesmerising custom-colour essentials” will be on shelves in time for the holiday season.

Starr has over 3.5 million followers on YouTube and has worked with major celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Tyra Banks.

The MAC collaboration is particularly inspiring as Starr, whose real name is Patrick Simondac, began his career as a makeup artist working at a MAC counter in his hometown of Orlando just five years ago.

Speaking to refinery29.com, Starr said working at MAC was “like Hogwarts” for him.

“I learned so much there and felt confident even though I didn’t really know makeup,” he recalled.

“I don’t think I would have started a YouTube channel had it not been for learning at MAC.”

Starr told the website that MAC also served as an emotional and creative outlet for him.

“There wasn’t really anywhere to wear makeup to for a young man my age,” he said.

“I’d go to Pulse, the gay club in Orlando, and MAC ‒ they were the only places I could wear makeup in public.”

A year in development, the inaugural MAC x Patrick Starrr collection is made up of “universal essentials” including setting powder, loose powder, eye shadow palettes and lipsticks.

“I didn’t want to go too artsy or avant garde with my collection,” said Starr.

“I literally wanted someone’s grandma to be able to walk into a MAC store anywhere in the world and be able to use these products.

“I made sure it was universal so that anyone who loves makeup, glamour, and sparkle will find something in it.”

Starr’s one-year collaboration with MAC will see the release of five more collections in 2018.
