Anyone who’s worked in the salon industry long enough has heard of their share of bizarre beauty treatments, from placenta face masks to vampire facials, the beauty world loves a good sensational ingredient. And the latest salon trend to hit Asia is certainly giving its weird predecessors a run for their money.

The snail facial, a new treatment craze in Tokyo, Japan, involves having real-life snails crawl across your clients face. Squirmish people need not inquire.

So…what the?!

Well the idea of the cringe-worthy snail facial experience is that the mucous deposited on clients’ skin as snails crawl across their faces (Ew!) contains specific proteins and antioxidants thought to be highly beneficial to the skin.

Though, dare we say it, most clients and therapists alike would probably prefer to source their antioxidants from decidedly less gross sources.

Have your say: What do you think of this treatment? Is it just hype to attract attention, or do you think the snail facial could actually work?
