Non-surgical cosmetic surgery set to grow

The global non-surgical cosmetic surgery market is set to grow 7.87 percent a year from 2017 until 2012, according to a new report.

The report, Global Non-Surgical Cosmetic Surgery Market 2017-2021, defined a non-surgical cosmetic surgery as “a non-invasive procedure that is performed by cosmetic or plastic surgeons” and involves the use of botulinum toxin, hyaluronic acid, chemical peel, hair removal and/or microdermabrasion.

The report found the key driver for the market growth was “increasing spending on reconstructive treatment” which includes both surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures.

“[Reconstructive treatments] are optional procedures that improve a person’s appearance,” the report said. “As they are not essential treatments, only a limited number of people undergo them, which affects the revenue of the market.

“However, due to increased awareness about non-surgical cosmetic reconstructive treatments and the limited side-effects associated with them, their demand is increasing.”

The research team behind the report also noted that one of the key trends in the market was the growing number of men opting for cosmetic treatment.

“In the past, women were the most common consumers of cosmetic products. “However, these days, men have also adopted surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures… [due to] “the desire to improve their appearance”.

Other trends included the growing importance of aesthetics; increasing number of service providers; growth of medical tourism and increasing awareness about anti-aging measures.

Despite the positive growth forecast, the report stressed that the proliferation of counterfeit products was a challenge for the market.

“The use of counterfeit products can be dangerous to the health of patients as they are sometimes contaminated with bacteria and other toxic chemicals.”

According to the report, which was produced by Research and Markets, the key players in the global non-surgical cosmetic surgery market are Allergan, Cynosure, Merz Pharma and Galderma.

Other prominent players include Alma Lasers, AQTIS Medical, BTL, Cutera, Genesis Biosystems, HCbeauty, Hangzhou Techderm Biological Products, Lumenis, Medytox, Suneva Medical, SciVision Biotech, Speciality European Pharma, Sciton, VCA Laser and VisionMed.
