Another year’s success at the Sydney beauty expo and another week of trying to hide post-show credit card bills from our S.Os…

Beauty Expo Australia has come to an end for another year, and as we try to hide the shopping damage from our partners, we’ve wrapped up all the highlights from the show for those of you that missed the action…

The overview

More than 7,000 visitors from all sectors of the industry across the country came to enjoy a smorgasbord of products, treatments, trends and new techniques from both industry heavy-weights and new up-and-comers.

“The first-class line up of exhibitors, demonstrations and education sessions ensured attendees left feeling more knowledgeable and better equipped to service their customers and build their businesses,” said event director, Julia Erben.

From all the sizzle of makeup, nail, lash, brow and tanning exhibits; to the science behind the very latest advancements in skincare; to the growing wellness market with natural and organic treatments; to celebrity guest appearances from the likes of Gina Liano and Sophie Monk, Beauty Expo Australia 2015 had it all.

“Beauty Expo provides a unique launch pad for new products, brands and treatments, whilst also offering a platform for established favourites to unveil their latest innovations. This year’s event was no exception and we are confident we achieved our objective of helping beauty professionals feel better educated, motivated and inspired to be a part of this incredibly innovative and exciting industry,” continued Erben.

The highlights

Highlights of the two-day event included Main Stage and the Wellness & Spa Stage which featured presentations and live demonstrations from leading industry experts such as Michael Brown, Rae Morris and Elaine Watson. The Education Sessions also proved very popular, with intimate talks and demonstrations from leading spa and beauty experts such as Sharon-Lee to help salon professionals increase profitability and maximise existing resources.

The sold-out Paramedical Conference, held in collaboration with industry leading partners The Laser Lounge and The Australasian Academy of Cosmetic Dermal Science (AACDS), and sponsored by Dermapen by Equipmed, attracted future-oriented salon managers set to transition their beauty salon into a medi-clinic.

The awards

This year’s expo saw another successful round of the Face2Face Makeup and Nailympia Australia awards, with a record number of entrants, featuring some of the industry’s most creative and innovative artists.

Taking out the top trophies at the Face2Face Makeup Awards were Alana Mevissen in the Beauty Editorial category; Helen Beasley in the Body Art category and Courtney Hudson in the Film & Fantasy SPSX category.

In only its second year, Nailympia Australia saw a 40 per cent increase in entrant numbers, with nail technician Kathy White taking out the event’s top award – the Robert Bowrey Trophy.
