Bringing the fun, Steve Plakotaris

Ask Steve Plakotaris to describe his career in a few sentences and he’ll cheekily tell you, “It’ll take a lot more than that! You got 25 years?”

The newly appointed marketing and communications manager of salon brand Inskin Cosmedics has had a job path that would make anyone feel like they’d only been sailing by.

A New Yorker who built his career working with some of the world’s most prestigious brands in the states, Plakotaris admits landing in Sydney in 1997 to launch his advertising agency VCD, was a harsh awakening.

“All the great brands in the world are here competing, fighting hard for their fair share of a very small market.  You either have to have monster budgets or a very good story to cut through and powerfully build a brand.”

Luckily Plakotaris has never been known to back away from a good challenge. So with a tight budget and a limited knowledge of the Australian market, he got to work.

Now, more than a decade later, Plakotaris has become something of a household name in the Australian marketing world, working with names like celeb manicurist Christina Fitzgerald, whom he helped launch the cult 90s nail polish collection, Christina Fitzgerald.

And when you’ve built your own brand the way Plakotaris has, you can afford to be picky with where you assign your loyalties. For him, the choice was salon brand Inskin Cosmedics.

“Inskin suits my personality, skill sets and ambition perfectly.  A small, clever company with multiple brands under an umbrella group brand, strong and smart leadership, a willingness to take measured risks in all areas of the business including MarComms and most importantly – a cheeky fun loving culture.”

And the brand couldn’t be happier to have the marketing pro with a cheeky attitude on board.

“As Inskin continues to lead, innovate and grow in the skincare space, the timing was just right to bring a communications professional with Steve’s unique abilities on board,” says CEO and founder Marie Cocciolone.

He’s a pro in every sense of the word, we’re pumped to have him and enthusiastically welcome him to the Inskin family.”
