Study Says Hairdressers Are Better Than Beauty Pros

A new survey has revealed that beauty therapists rank behind hairdressers when it comes to customer service.

A new study by online business directory, TrueLocal, has found that hairdressing services beat out beauty services when it comes to customer service.

The survey asked a thousand Australian respondents to rank ten industries for their level of customer service, from hospitality to automotive services.

Restaurants and cafes came out on top, rated number one by 27 per cent of participants, while medical centers came in second, with 18 per cent of Aussies ranking them highly for their service.

Hair services made the top five, coming in at number four on the list, while beauty services only made it to number eight on the list, beating out only pet and domestic services.

The survey also questioned respondents about poor customer service. When asked what it would take to drive them to share a bad experience with friends or online, 72 per cent of respondents selected rudeness, 57 per cent chose being ignored, and 62 per cent indicated hidden costs or additional charges.

Worryingly, when respondents were asked what businesses had most commonly done to remedy poor service, 42 per cent said that no action was taken while ten per cent reiterated their  terms or conditions  or personally blamed the customer for things going wrong. Nineteen per cent of businesses offered respondents a refund or discount off future services, and 12 per cent offered gift vouchers.

“Businesses most popular for good service are likely to be active in the spaces where their customers are, encouraging honest feedback, and – perhaps most importantly – noticing and taking action when a customer is unsatisfied,” says TrueLocal spokesperson, Bradley Taylor.
