Launchpad Stage

Created to provide up-and-coming talent a stage for their creative vision, the new Launchpad Stage at Salon Melbourne featured a series of short, sharp shows.

Professional Beauty was the proud media partner of this initiative and was impressed with the calibre of talent on-stage organised by makeup brand Kryolan.

The Launchpad featured non-stop 15 minute demonstrations that alternated between hair and makeup. The makeup demonstrations ranged from expert tips to trend-driven looks and body art. Traffic was at a constant flow as those passing by would stop and discover the Launchpad stage. Many would return with their friends, sharing the tips they have learnt and waiting eagerly for more.

A highlight for the Professional Beauty team was a mature-age makeup tutorial by freelance Sydney makeup artist Sabrina Melei. Sabrina’s 15 minute session was titled ‘Makeup Tips for Surgery Free Younger Looking Skin’ where she addressed every mature age skin issue and the correct products and techniques to counteract them.

With a rising ageing population and greater life expectancy – our industry’s biggest customers are those with ageing concerns. Sabrina demonstrated the effects of mature-skin targeted makeup and what products to use.

Here are some top tips from the session:
– Heighten the brows and eyes by highlighting the top of the brow, filling in the brow with extra emphasis on the top of the arch (for a lifted effect) and then finishing with a nude pencil to highlight under the brow. According to Sabrina “sparkle textures on mature skin is never good, make sure you use matte textures.”
– For dewy and plumper-looking skin use a crème highlighter and dab into the skin (do not drag it). Draw a C-section around the eye contour for brighter eyes.
– Blush for mature skin should focus on the cheekbones as opposed to the apples of the cheeks. The apples of the cheeks are in close proximity to lines and wrinkles around the mouth – avoid accentuating these features by drawing attention to the cheekbones instead.
