Radiosurgery at Face Plus Medispa

Face Plus by Dr William Mooney, a boutique Medispa based at Bondi Junction, sets a new benchmark for the Eastern Suburbs. A modernist haven – its light-filled and luxurious space offers clients the latest technology, natural results and a bespoke service. The medispa’s philosophy is to enhance your natural beauty: to design and divine the most radiant glowing version of you.

One of the treatments offered at the medispa is Radiosurgery which can be used, among other things, as an alternative to laser and IPL to remove unwanted veins. The treatment has been very popular at Face Plus for clients who have had stubborn veins that have returned after laser surgery. Radiosurgery is the passage of ultra high-frequency waves into the skin. The term “radio” is used as the frequency is higher than AM radios but lower than the frequency of television. It makes very fine and precise punctures; a thin micro-insulated wire is gently inserted into the unwanted vein.

Unlike other coagulation systems, its heat is delivered and transferred through water particles in the cells. This enables heat to be constrained to the area being treated and so only the tissue cells immediately adjacent to the electrode are affected. This also allows for a quick and comfortable recovery.

As it is a medical grade only modality, both doctors and registered nurses, only, can professionally utilise it. Dr Mooney’s practice currently uses Medtel’s Acuset Ellman radio frequency device. The practice uses it for a range of cosmetic adjustments including:
• Skin tag and mole removal
• Removal of superficial visible vessels commonly seen around the nose and inside the nostrils.
• Obliteration of very superficial leg veins
• Sebaceous Gland Ablation is a tremendously successful treatment for active acne.
• Nip and tuck procedures for patients following Rhinoplasty.

Depending on the procedure, topical aesthetic and injected local aesthetic are used.

Deborah Deane, a registered nurse who has been working with Dr Mooney for many years and performs Radio Frequency, says of the procedure, “The results are permanent. They replace surgical removal of skin tags and moles which include bleeding, sutures, antibiotics and recovery from the wound. Recovery from Radio Frequency is the development of a scab which is required to fall away itself over a week. There is virtually no downtime.

“The use of Radio Frequency at Face Plus is becoming more popular as patients come through. When they hear about the efficiency of the procedure that has a minimal “ouch” factor, and its benefits they do not hesitate with treatment.

“While radio frequency and laser do treat pigmentation, laser (IPL) differs as its energy source is light and it doesn’t treat raised lesions.”

Face Plus pride themselves in their in depth analysis of a client’s needs, wants, concerns and facial aesthetic, creating a rejuvenation program entirely customised around the individual. The treatment menu is designed to repair damage from the inside out, brake pad against future ageing and allow the recipient to luxuriate in sensory escape.
