Beautyworld Germany attendance up while India show has successful debut

[Mon 09/03/2009 12:03:57]

Messe Frankfurt reports that Beautyworld 2009, held from January 31 to February 3 in Frankfurt, Germany, attracted 323 exhibitors from 29 countries and some 10,400 trade visitors from 78 countries; approximately 1,400 more than the previous year. Of the European nations, Italy, Poland, Austria, the Netherlands and France were the top countries in terms of visitor numbers.

Special highlights for buyers were the wellness and spa, natural cosmetics and anti-ageing product segments. The trend forum, designed specifically for these product ranges, was popular with visitors.

For the first time, Beautyworld featured a Nails & Design product area. The show also hosted the Nail Championships, which determined the most creative nail designers from Germany and Europe in the Boxed Competitions and Open Championships categories.

Trends emerging at the show included the ongoing high demand for natural cosmetics – achieving visible results with products that are as natural as possible. The new makeup trends are natural pastels for eyes and pale or dark pink for lips. In the wellness and spa market, new massage techniques and spa equipment are in high demand globally. Other distinctive trends include wellness packages for couples, day spas, “wellness breaks” are becoming more popular, and demand for wellness for men continues to rise. Innovative product design, creative packaging and cross-selling are boosting consumption. Ancient natural products and ceremonies from Asia and Africa continue to provide a source of inspiration for modern, “Europeanised” products and therapies. Bath products, creams, candles and relaxing music with a gift set and/or spiritual touch are enjoying increasing popularity.

Beautyworld 2010 will take place from Saturday, 30 January to Tuesday, 2 February. For more information, visit www.beautyworld.messefrankfurt.com

Meanwhile, Messe Frankfurt India reports that the debut Beautyworld India, premiering in Mumbai from October 3 to 6, 2008, received an overall positive response from exhibitors, with many saying they will exhibit again in 2009.

Staged at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, the fair attracted 62 exhibitors and 4912 trade visitors. Exhibitors from 15 countries formed a valuable basis for establishing a first show, and the 16 workshops conducted by high profile personalities from the cosmetic sector formed the core of the fair, attracting the attention of the media and visitors alike.

“You could say that we are somewhat early in the market, however we have great faith in this incredible market of young consumers, with money to spend and whose lifestyles are changing rapidly,” said Ms. Shammi Nagpal, Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt India. “Sooner or later the global and Indian cosmetic industry would have to come together in India.”

Messe Frankfurt India states that the Indian market for beauty and cosmetics is currently growing at 35 per cent – twice as fast as European and American markets.

Beautyworld India 2009 takes place in Mumbai from October 4 to 6. For more information, visit: www.messefrankfurtindia.in.
