Beautyworld Middle East grows despite slow economy

[Thu 26/02/2009 10:03:46]

The organisers of Beautyworld and Wellness and Spas Middle East have announced that despite the current economic slowdown, the show is currently recording a growth of 17 per cent in comparison to 2008 figures. The event is now in its sixth year, and organisers say that its growth is led by the continued attractiveness of the regional market for the beauty and personal care industry, and also the fact that Dubai’s central location serves as a gateway to the Middle East, Africa, the Indian Sub Continent and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Beautyworld organisers say that the Middle East Cosmetic and Toiletries (C&T) market is one of the largest and most profitable in the world, growing at a rate of 12 per cent annually; with beauty sales expected to increase by more than AED (United Arab Emirates dirham) 11 billion (4,65 billion Australian dollars) by 2010.

“We feel confident that the Cosmetic and Toiletries [C&T] industry will continue to experience growth in 2009. It is widely believed that people tend not to compromise with their image or grooming, and also require ‘feel-good items’ during these unstable times,” said Andrea Werner, Senior Show Manager of Beautyworld Middle East.

The 2009 events anticipate that 850 exhibitors from 50 countries will showcase the current trends in beauty products, cosmetics and perfumery from across the globe. Over 1,500 brands will be represented, with an expected visitor attendance of 18,000 from over 100 countries.

In 2008, 84 exhibitors participated in Wellness & Spas and 693 in Beautyworld. With over 2,642 individual visits for Wellness & Spas and over 14,350 visitors for Beautyworld, these two events are the largest gathering of wellness and beauty professionals in the Middle East.

“From a trade perspective, during a time of economic uncertainty, export companies try to seek new lucrative markets like the Middle East in order to reduce their dependence on one or two larger developed markets, such as Europe and the USA. This year, we have noticed an increase in the number of companies interested in exhibiting from the USA, Italy and Argentina, indicating more international awareness of the C & T market potential here in the Middle East,” Ms. Werner said.

If you are interested in exhibiting at Beautyworld Wellness & Spas Middle East through the Australian Pavilion, please contact: Ms Doris Schnyder, Manager – Trade Fairs, German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce – Official Representative of Messe Frankfurt for Australia. Telephone: 61 2 8296 0455.

The events will take place from June 7 to 9, 2009, in halls 1 to 8 plus Al Multaqua Ballroom of the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre in Dubai, UAE. Visit www.beautyworldme.com and www.wellnessandspas.com
